Apple iPhone 14 Review

The iPhone 14 Plus has a larger size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max so the specs are the same, with a size of 6.8″ for both. As you can see from the points above, the main differences between the iPhone 14. And Pro models are the camera and Apple’s new Dynamic Island. Which is a fancy term for a status bar that shows what you’re doing while doing other things . The Pro has an more lens for optical zoom without sacrificing image quality. And the main lens is now 48MP instead of 12MP.

If you want a closer look at the specs of both, check out Apple’s site for iPhone 14 specs and iPhone 14 Pro specs.

Breakdown of iPhone 14

The screen size of the iPhone 14 is 6.1″ which is average for most smart phones these days. And still not too big so you can use it with one hand. This screen size supports 2532×1170 pixels resolution at 460 ppi. With 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 800 nits peak brightness. So basically it looks bright and awesome. The main lens is 12MP and takes great photos with Apple’s filtering. And image stabilization that will never let you down.

The iPhone 14 Pro is essentially the same phone but with a few extra features. Mostly just a better camera and a zoom lens. If you’re into taking photos then this model is definitely for you. Now with an extra megapixel (48MP) on the main lens. The resolution will be amazing without sacrificing too many pixels. And cropping will be easy. Optical zoom can also be quite handy. I use that feature a lot on my iPhone 13 Pro for taking pictures of flowers, animals or people to get good closeups.
Apple phones are quite expensive and this one is no exception.
iPhone 14 128GB will cost you $829 USD or €999 for EU
iPhone 14 Pro 128GB will cost you $999 USD or €1,299 for EU

To upgrade or not to upgrade….

If you’re currently using an iPhone 13 or Pro like me. It’s best to wait until next year’s release as the changes are minimal and not worth the price. Usually it’s better to wait two versions above Apple devices. you should get a real upgrade with significantly better features.

If you’re looking to upgrade from something less than the iPhone 12. It might be better to look at the iPhone 13 as the changes to this model aren’t significant. And getting your hands on a refurbished phone can really save you some money. If you’ve upgraded and love taking quality photos, definitely go for the iPhone 14 Pro if you can afford it.

Android vs Apple

That each manufacturer has to lock you into their phone model. Samsung even has their own app store and you need to create a Samsung account. Much like you need a Google Play Store and Gmail account.

To use an Apple device you need an AppleID and you get some cloud space that will store passwords and photos. Android has similar features from every manufacturer. Syncing photos to cloud space and storage of passwords, accounts, etc.

Budget is probably the biggest difference between the phones. Most Apple phones are on the higher end of the price scale, especially for top models with mosset specs. Top Android phones cost more but usually come with more features. And space for much less than their Apple counterparts.

The best thing about Android phones is the variety and price, where you can get a decent phone for $200 USD or €250. The worst part of Android is the disconnect. Between Android OS from manufacturers and Google. This means that each manufacturer making the phone does not control. the major parts of the software. That run the phone and can only tailor it to suit their brand. This causes a lot of issues with things like bluetooth, wifi. Also power control, camera and touch screen.

The last major problem with Android is apps and how many malicious ones are out there trying to steal your data. Or hack your phone For people who know what they’re doing. And which apps are safe it’s usually not a problem. But for other people who aren’t tech savvy they can really get caught out.

The biggest problem with Apple is locking in connectors. On/off your phone or access photo syncing. And painful to connect to the new connector.

Can you switch between Apple and Android :

Of course you can but I wouldn’t recommend it. It requires a certain level of skill with technology. That most people don’t have, including syncing contacts, photos and messages.

iPhone 14 vs Galaxy S22

Currently the best phone for Samsung 2T Galaxy S22 phone has the following features:

  • 6.1″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X
  • 2340×1080 pixel resolution with 425 ppi
  • 1300 nits peak brightness
  • 50MP Wide Angle: 23 mm, ƒ/1.8 aperture
  • 10MP 3x Telephoto: 70 mm, ƒ/2.4 aperture
  • 12MP Ultra Wide: 13 mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture
  • 3x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 30x
  • 8-core CPU
  • 128GB, 256GB storage space

That have a larger screen and higher megapixel cameras. As you can see from the specs above they’re really like the iPhone 14.

If you’re looking for your first phone. it comes down to choosing which brand you want to lock in and stick with forever. And whether you prefer Apple or Android.

iPhone 14 vs Google Pixel 6 Pro

  • 6.7″ LTPO AMOLED
  • 3120×1440 pixel resolution with 512 ppi
  • 50MP Wide Angle: 25 mm, ƒ/1.9 aperture
  • 48MP 4x Telephoto: 104 mm, ƒ/3.5 aperture
  • 12MP Ultra Wide: 17 mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture
  • 3x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 30x
  • 8-core CPU
  • 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage space

The Google Pixel 6 Pro is aimed at people who love to take pictures. With close to the best camera available on a smartphone. And some clever image processing with Magic Eraser . Google used to offer unlimited storage for photos.
